Hope (Verse)

by Dee Newman

I guess it can be said with persuasion
That Hope’s a liar with tenacity.
It has never lost its reputation,
Though undeserved, for its veracity.
Deceitful as it may be, Hope, at least,
Offers some solace to our journey’s end.
Though we may never arrive at the feast,
We can dream that it’s just around the bend.
Of all the many pains we must endure,
(Grief, heartache, anguish, agony, and woe)
Hope may provide the sole possible cure.
Without it, despair is all we may know.
So, whether or not hope has a kernel
Of truth, thank the fates it springs eternal.
