Gabrielle Giffords (D–Ariz.) returns to the House floor

Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D–Ariz.) returned to the House floor yesterday to cast a vote in favor of the bill to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Receiving a sustained, standing ovation as she entered the chamber, she began shaking hands with colleagues whom she had not seen since January when she was shot in the head by a gunman in Tucson,  Arizona. The bill passed through the chamber by a margin of 269 to 161.

It was a marvelous moment! I had C-SPAN on as background so I would know how the vote went and was aware that they were about in the middle of voting. Heard loud applause and went over to the TV to see what had happened and the C-SPAN announcer was reading a press release or tweet or something that said "Gabrielle Giffords has returned to the House floor to vote. Turn on C-SPAN." She was not even yet in view of the camera as he read it, so it was really exciting to wait for the camera to focus in on where she was...almost like being there! She is definitely one of my heroes.
