Marina Abramovic was born November 30, 1946 in Belgrade, Serbia. The New York-based performance artist began her career in the early 1970s. She has been describe as the "grandmother of performance art." Exploring the relationship between performer and audience, her work examines the limits of the body and the possibilities of the mind.
