Dan, I believe that it was a large chipmunk, possibly pregnant. Since the copperhead had already consumed half of the poor creature, I was unable to make a positive identification. I can tell you one thing, though, with its mouthful that copperhead was mighty vulnerable.
Your photos are gorgeous, Then I hit the one of the copperhead eating the chipmunk (?). That's pretty darn unique! And with the flies! Looks like a wonderful place to visit and contemplate life, death, and everything in between and possibly after...
