I just sent the following note to President Obama:
Dear President Obama,
If you and the Democrats in Congress take the path of least resistance and pass a bill that does nothing except perhaps further enrich the same insurance companies who have broken the system, and then, claim a glorious victory for health care reform, the Democratic base will sit out the next election, the independents will move right and vote for Republicans, and you will go down in history as a incompetent leader.
Stop trying to win over Republicans. It will not happen! Start using your bully-pulpit to pass true health care reform.
Tell the American people the truth – the only way significant cost savings can be accomplished is through a single-payer system and that you regret that it was taking off the table from the get-go and that a public option is the bottom line, anything less will be vetoed.
